DBJ Invites Businesses To Participate in IDB-FUNDED Energy Project

For Immediate Release
PRESS RELEASE
DBJ INVITES SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED BUSINESSES TO PARTICIPATE IN
IDB-FUNDED ENERGY PROJECT

The Development Bank of Jamaica has received a grant of US$ US$593,000 from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to promote energy efficiency, energy conservation and investment in renewable energy in small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) operating in Jamaica.

The project comprises three components covering an assessment of the demand for investments in energy efficiency and conservation measures and alternative sources of energy in SMEs in Jamaica; the development of a local training and certification course for energy auditors and energy managers, which is being done in collaboration with the University of Technology; and the development and implementation of demonstration projects that showcase the successful use
of alternative energy and highlight the benefits of energy efficiency and conservation strategies within the SME sector.

SMEs will be selected for participation in the project on the basis of location, sector/industry, and their annual turnover.  After selection, the businesses will be outfitted with energy-saving devices and equipment.

The DBJ is currently inviting SMEs interested in participating in the project to submit their Statement of Capacity.  SMEs must provide information establishing that they have the capacity to implement energy management systems funded by the grant and can provide counterpart funding of at least 40%.

Every applicant is required to provide a brief description of the company and its location, the industry or sector in which it is involved, its total assets, annual sales and turnover and the number of employees. The company’s current energy consumption for the past year and average monthly demand must be indicated as well as its rate structure and billing cycle.

A valid Tax Compliance Certificate must accompany the application which must arrive at the DBJ on or before June 6, 2011.

The companies will be selected in accordance with procedures developed by the DBJ and the IDB.
